UHS graduates leading West Utica students in the school fight song

More than 20 recent high school and college graduates went back to their West Utica Elementary roots Thursday.

The 2018 graduates encouraged the current generation of West Utica Elementary Stallions to work hard, take advantage of the opportunities available to them, and to set high goals and standards for themselves.

They also led the West Utica students in the school fight song.

Utica High School Valedictorian Ryan Oliver told students: “A lot us we have found success and greatness from our time at West Utica. It is important that you come here every day and really give it your all.”

One graduate, who recently earned a Master’s Degree from Michigan State University, encouraged students to think beyond high school.

“When I was your age, I never thought I would be standing here today with a Master’s Degree,” he said. “One day you can find yourself standing up here like us. You have to work for it and believe in yourself too.”

Principal Bradley Suggs told the graduates they are always welcomed back to their West Utica home.

“Once a Stallion, always a Stallion,” he told graduates.

West Utica students said the graduates helped them think about the future.

“It was very inspiring,” said fifth grader Isabella Younss, who plans to become a doctor.
